The series was originally a light novel written by Shu, starting in April 2017 on the web novel site Shosetsuka ni Naro. It was then published by Dengeki Bunko (KADOKAWA) in March 2018, becoming a hit novel series that has published over 2.2 million copies. The illustrations were created by Yoshinori Shizuma.

And now, after 2 years since the last broadcast, the misfit is coming back! The most popular arc of the original, the Great Spirit Arc, is finally getting animated.
